The Sims 3 Supernatural: highlights from the first live chat

Being the fantasy fan that I am, my excitement since the next Sims 3 Expansion Pack (EP), Supernatural, was announced has been hard to contain. Tonight was the producers first live chat about it. I am going to briefly detail the main points I gleaned from it.

Release Date: First week of September 2012 (day varies depending on region)

You will be able create supernaturals (witches, fairies, vampires, zombies and werewolves) in a variety of ways both in-game, through breeding, magic, biting and, uniquely for this EP, in Create a Sim (CAS). You will also be able to cure any turned sim.

There are five new sliders in CAS. Using these you can further adjust ear orbit & ear points, jaw line, brow definition and nostril flare. An extreme example of their use is on the poor sim below:

There is a new skill that all sims can gain. It is Alchemy and it is gained by mixing elixirs from collectables at a new Alchemy Station. You can make an elixir to turn another sim into a zombie but it isn’t a permanent curse (although they hinted that there are ways of making it permanent if you wish.) It is possible for your sim to die practising alchemy.   There was also a mention of a new haunted death.

If you install Supernatural a new lunar cycle will occur in all of your sim worlds and some sims will act strangely around a full moon. This will be particularly suited to the spooky ambience of the new world Moonlight Falls. It was also hinted that the new world has several mysteries for simmers to uncover.

Only small bits of information were given about each supernatural type with a promise of future official blog posts and live chats to follow before the release date. They did clarify that the supernatural sims can wear whatever you want them to wear but if you want them to be a stereotypical creature that will be possible with new outfits. Also, they can crossbreed with a chance of their children being a supernatural.

Here is what was said about each supernatural:

Female werewolves can be furry at all ages and have new interactions such as being able to nuzzle another sim.

Can be created via potions or biting. If a zombie is really hungry it will be able to eat brains. This doesn’t kill the bitten sim but it will temporarily make them a zombie.

Will be able to do new things. That is all that was said. An official blog post will reveal more later. They will continue to age slowly.

Will age slower than normal sims. Again we were told more would be revealed at a later date. Their wings are customisable however so if you want black wings you can have them.

Not much was said about witches, apart from a repeated man-witch joke, but one was used to demonstrate the Alchemy station.

I have read on the Official Blog that sims will also be able to make a living as a fortune teller.  I have to admit that could be fun, as long as it’s not too repetitive like careers from Ambitions and Showtime can be.

There has also been mention from SimGurus on Twitter that players will be able to control the amount of supernaturals (and celebrities) in their worlds which will make the creature haters happy. I am not one of them so I will probably leave it at whatever the default is.

The producers went to great lengths to tell everyone about the special items you can receive if you order one of the two limited editions that will be available, one of which is Origin only. Both are tied in with items related to the Plants Vs Zombies game which is a game made by Popcap who were bought by EA  last year. I don’t really enjoy cross-platform marketing, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but if people play both games it might hold some interest.

They are drip feeding us information, which is both maddening and clever. I guess we’ll have to wait until September to really see what it’s all about. I cannot wait, very much looking forward to this one after the disappointment of Showtime and the revulsion I feel when I look at anything with Sweet Treats on it.

I suppose I’ll have to be content with the Diesel Stuff Pack in between times but I will be counting down the days!

  1. Searching I noticed your blog book-marked as: The Sims 3 Supernatural: highlights from the first live chat | krazyangelkat81sobsessions.
I am assuming you book marked it yourself and
wanted to ask if social book-marking gets you a ton of targeted
traffic? I’ve been thinking of doing some social bookmarking for a few of my websites but wasn’t sure
if it would yield any positive results. Appreciate it.

    • Hi Gabriela, yes if you tag your blog posts with something that relates to a much talked about topic then yes it can get a lot of attention. However I would only do this if you truly care about the topic or people will soon stop reading.
