Child of the Night: The Kendra Magna Story – Chapter 10

Kendra’s Perspective:

A week after we met I was thrilled to get a phone call from Ebenezer Clavier.  Ever since I bumped into him outside the publishers I had thought about little else.

Eb, as he liked to be called, asked me on a sunset date to a funky fusion bar in Bridgeport city.  The fact that he was sensitive enough of my vampiric condition to suggest a late time of day endeared him to me even more.

I left a note for my cousin and house mate Clara, who was working late at city hall, got ready and left the apartment giddy with excitement.

Eb met me outside the bar.

“I’m so glad you came Kendra,” he grinned at me “I got here early and the wait seemed forever but now you are here I know it was worth it.”

“Thanks,” I blushed, “Shall we get a drink?”

We went inside and bought two Kyoto My Heart cocktails.

I was impressed that he was man enough not to be phased by the very feminine drink. The effect of the alcohol was instant, it made us both relax a bit more in each other’s company. After a few more drinks and relaxed conversation we decided to go outside for some privacy.

Ever since I had become a fully fledged vampire at the age of 21 I had developed a fascination with the night sky as it was the view I saw most often.

Eb listened in fascination as I pointed out the Orion Constellation and explained the mythological stories attached to it.  When I finished talking he pulled me to my feet and into his embrace.

After kissing me so hard that I felt my pulse begin to race, he pulled back and looked me straight in the eyes.

“Kendra Magna, you are a fascinating woman, would you let me escort you home?”

“Yes of course.” I replied breathlessly. I did not want this night to end.

Once we reached my apartment building I asked Eb if he wanted to come up for coffee. I know it’s a cliché but I was feeling too shy to say what I really wanted.

However once we got in the lift I wasn’t afraid to show him:

After getting passionate in the lift we needed no words to express what was on both of our minds. It was amazing we made it up the stairs to my bedroom but I was conscious of the fact that Clara might return home at any minute so I rushed Eb to my room where we picked up the pace again.

I felt more in control of this relationship than I ever had with my first boyfriend Notzo. Now that I was a grown woman I realised I was much more comfortable asking for what I wanted rather than following a man around like a lovesick puppy.

Eb seemed to appreciate my confidence and it wasn’t long before we’d lost our clothes as well as any remaining inhibitions and fallen into my bed together.

When it was over we lay in bed just looking at each other. We stayed that way until tiredness got the better of us both and we fell into a blissful sleep.

Clara’s Perspective:

When I got home from work, two hours late as usual, the apartment was empty. I found Kendra’s note on the table letting me know she was out on a date with some guy called Ebenezer.

I can’t remember the last time I had a date. Ever since my father, the well-respected mayor of Twinbrook, had died I had dedicated my life to being the best at my own career in politics that I could be. But it was harder than I thought and I wasn’t getting any younger. In fact if the mirror was showing me a true reflection I was getting old.

Bridgeport is a young city so if I’m going to represent it I have to appear as young and vibrant as possible.  The so-called miracle anti-ageing creams didn’t seem to be working any more, it seemed time for more drastic action.

I’m not proud of it, but I decided to go the hospital and get Botox injections.

I still had a lot of inheritance money left and I justified spending it this way as it was for the greater good. Bridgeport needed a new leader and it was my calling to be just that.

After treatment at the clinic I headed out on the town to test out my new youthful looks. Besides there was no point going back to an empty apartment, Kendra would be out most of the night.

I decided to head to the Prosper Room, as I thought it would be a good place to schmooze for connections. However I was halted at the door.

The hatchet faced woman on the door had the cheek to tell me she didn’t recognise me and demanded I pay her a bribe to get in. I grudgingly gave her the money. She took it and laughed in my face.

Feeling dejected I went home and climbed into bed hugging my pillow. I could hear a lot of giggling coming from Kendra’s room. At least one of us was having a good time.

Kendra’s Perspective:

The morning after the night before, I was enjoying a plasma juice breakfast and the view of my new boyfriend parading around in his pants when Clara emerged from her room.

“Morning Cous! Good night?!” She said teasingly

I flushed a little bit. I’d never heard her come in but it was clear from her tone that she had overheard us getting down to it.

Thankfully she was just messing with me and soon we were all seated in front of the TV watching the big football match between my Mum’s team, the Twinbrook Llamas, and the Bridgeport Falcons.

Despite the fact I now lived in the city, my loyalty would always be to the Llamas so this caused a friendly grudge match and some trash talk between the others and me. It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Clara’s Perspective:

Kendra seemed so happy that I wasn’t about to bring her down with my tales of woe. Also tonight was the last night of my 30s and I was determined to celebrate in style.

Eb seemed like a nice guy so I invited him to join us out on the town. I’d booked a private room in underground dance club The Brightmore. I didn’t want to share tonight with anyone except for my closest friends.

We got down to some serious drinking and dancing. At one point I saw Eb look over at Kendra concerned she was drinking too much. I thought that was sweet of him but I couldn’t help but feel a tad envious. Kendra always seemed to find good guys. I hadn’t dated since I caught my high school sweetheart in a compromising position with a fellow cheerleader.

One of the perks to renting a private area was getting the hot tub to ourselves. We spent a good couple of hours in there splashing around and getting drinks brought to us. It was pure luxury. I was having so much fun that I almost forgot that tomorrow I would turn 40.

The following day, as I prepared to blow out the candles on my cake, I could think of only one wish. I wanted to be young forever.
